Convention guests shun cattle class Peter Morley August 20, 2004 THE Gold Coast had lost two conventions sourced out of Melbourne because delegates did not want to travel on Jetstar, the Qantas offshoot that does not allocate seating, State Parliament heard yesterday. Labor Member for Southport Peter Lawlor said Queensland was serviced by two "virgin" airlines – "Virgin Blue and vergin' on the ridiculous, otherwise known as Jetstar". Mr Lawlor said cut-price Jetstar offered Third World service to the Gold Coast where it had replaced most Qantas flights. His comments came ahead of an announcement planned for today of a major realignment of Tourism Queensland, based on the fact that cheap domestic fares are bringing so much business to the state. The organisation will now shift its focus to attracting more international visitors.
